Mistresses
It's the final episode of the series and the women have much to think about. For instance, Siobhan (Orla Brady) can't understand why her husband Hari wants a divorce after finding out that she picked up strangers in hotel bars for sex. Hmm, tough one. Then there's Katie (Sarah Parish), the world's least observant doctor, who lives in a house made entirely of glass: she kisses her boss/ex-lover in public at work, then is shocked when she's spotted by her current boyfriend and he dumps her. Who'd have thought it? Still, though Mistresses is possibly the most witless drama in the history of television, it's hard to dislike, mainly because you know exactly where you are with it. Thus I guarantee that this last instalment will yet again live down to your expectations, as it did mine, when we must say goodbye to a glossy world of coloured tights, gorgeous glass lamp-bases and terrible dialogue. He travels the world to bring his alleged ability to effect miracle cures to a devoted following. Filmmaker Emeka Onono follows Gary as he tries to prove he really does have the power to heal. Horizon
Why Can't We Predict Earthquakes?
Last century, earthquakes killed over one million, and it is predicted that this century might see ten times as many deaths. Yet, when an earthquake strikes, it always takes people by surprise. So why hasn't science worked out how to predict when and where the next big quake is going to happen? Journeying to China's Sichuan Province as well as the notorious San Andreas Fault in California, Horizon asks why science has so far fallen short of answering this fundamental question.

Heston's Roman Feast
Heston Blumenthal entreats us throughout the preparation of his ancient Roman feast, "Don't try this at home!" Don't worry, Heston, I won't. Fear not, pork scratchings made from pig's nipples, calf's brain custard and ejaculating puddings will never, ever cross my kitchen worktops. You can rely on it. Mind you, it's scintillating to watch Blumenthal work his magic, even if you find yourself gagging from time to time, as do the random members of the public he collars in the street to try his first attempt at brainy custard. Even the addition of rose petals doesn't make it any more appealing, or edible. But Blumenthal's artistry is beyond doubt and his guests, who include a delighted Alexander Armstrong and a beaming Marquess of Bath, are in raptures as course after decadent course arrives at their table. Be prepared for lots of ribaldry, as this is a "theatrical, deviant, orgiastic" feast. You have been warned. Radio Times reviewer - Alison Graham

The X-Files
The TV phenomenon of the 1990s makes an effortless transition to the big screen, and, while the plot remains firmly grounded in the themes of the series, the uninitiated should not feel put off, as this plays equally well as a classy conspiracy thriller. Here, intrepid FBI duo Mulder and Scully (David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson) investigate an explosion at a federal building and stumble across the biggest alien cover-up in the world's history. Director Rob Bowman (who has also worked on the series) is faithful to the show's paranoiac roots, but gleefully opens the action out to stage some spectacular set pieces. He is well served by his leads, and by the likes of Martin Landau, Armin Mueller-Stahl and John Neville.

CSI: Crime Scene Investigation
The Grave Shift
It's Dr Raymond Langston's first day at work in the CSI lab and he's tackling a case straight away. Which is a bit of a stretch, as surely he hasn't had any CSI training? And isn't he a forensic psychologist , not a scientist? Ah well, this is CSI land: they do things differently here. Poor Langston (a stolid Laurence Fishburne) is confronted with what is delicately described by Nick Stokes as a "crispy critter", a corpse burned beyond recognition after a gas explosion. By CSI standards, it's a slow episode with a back-to-basics feel (everything has to be explained to Langston). And there's a Gil Grissom-sized hole where Gil Grissom should be. Holloway
For many of the women in Holloway Prison's young offenders wing, the focus of the second episode in a well-made and thoughtful series, incarceration provides a strange form of stability. Strange for anyone who's grown up loved and secure, that is, but not for young women who have suffered hellish childhoods. Some don't want to leave when they've completed their sentences. For one young woman who before prison had problems with alcohol, Holloway has meant for the first time ever a structured life - she knows where her next meal is coming from and that every night she will sleep somewhere safe. Sadly, her anxieties bring on a particularly savage bout of self-harming. With almost painful inevitability, her story doesn't end happily when she's met, on her release from Holloway, by a friend who brings her bottles of vodka and beer.
