Heston's Roman Feast
Heston Blumenthal entreats us throughout the preparation of his ancient Roman feast, "Don't try this at home!" Don't worry, Heston, I won't. Fear not, pork scratchings made from pig's nipples, calf's brain custard and ejaculating puddings will never, ever cross my kitchen worktops. You can rely on it. Mind you, it's scintillating to watch Blumenthal work his magic, even if you find yourself gagging from time to time, as do the random members of the public he collars in the street to try his first attempt at brainy custard. Even the addition of rose petals doesn't make it any more appealing, or edible. But Blumenthal's artistry is beyond doubt and his guests, who include a delighted Alexander Armstrong and a beaming Marquess of Bath, are in raptures as course after decadent course arrives at their table. Be prepared for lots of ribaldry, as this is a "theatrical, deviant, orgiastic" feast. You have been warned. Radio Times reviewer - Alison Graham
